AZ State Tax credits - tax year 2024

Arizona Tax Credit Program

Arizona has one of the most robust state tax credit programs in the country. AZ taxpayers have the opportunity to make contributions to certain charities, or schools, and allow those donations to go directly against AZ tax, as an actual credit not simply a deduction. Married filing Jointly taxpayers can utilize AZ credits up to a total of $5,821 for tax year 2024.

These are non-refundable credits which simply means that you must have to had paid AZ tax throughout the year. If you have a job, or take any form of taxable income, you likely have tax liability and thus can use the credits. See us for information on your personal situation.

EXAMPLE: - normal refund situation

2,500         Your AZ Tax Liability for 2024

4,000         What was withheld through your employer

1,500         AZ Tax Refund

EXAMPLE: - with maxing AZ credits

2,500         Your AZ Tax Liability for 2024

2,500         Max AZ credits (cannot be more than you tax liability; if so, it can carry forward 5 yrs)

4,000         What was withheld through your employer

4,000         AZ Tax Refund*

* In this scenario, the 2,500 you donated to charities, would come right back to you via a refund.
